Finding a Reputable LTL Carrier

Looking for a new service provider in any business can sometimes seem overwhelming. Finding a new Less Than Truckload (LTL) carrier can be a challenge, especially if you have been burned by your last one. Just as any other service type of company, not all LTL trucking companies are equal. Most offer a similar base of what services they will provide and even pricing can be similar, but as we all know, that is not the only deciding factor on how to choose a carrier.

Many shippers go into their business not really thinking about the logistics involved as they set up their products and vendors. They worry more about the cost of the product they are making instead of the carrier they are using or the LTL freight rates this carrier is offering. They find a carrier online and run with it. This is not a good way to get a partner. One of the best ways to find a good carrier is word of mouth. Ask around in networking groups or from your vendors if they are local. A lot of times they have worked with a variety of truckers and can give good insight on their service. If you are planning to ship regularly with the carrier, you should meet with a sales person directly. No shows and unreturned calls can be a red flag, so be sure to note these types of service failures so you can move on to a better carrier. In addition, there are freight fowarders who also partner with leading LTL carriers, which is another option.

Finding an LTL carrier is not really hard, but to find one that fits in with your company may take more than a quick search online. And once you find what you think is a good company, be sure to check with the better business bureau and make sure they have not switched names recently or had unexplained trouble in the past. This will save you both time and money in the future.
